Mauricio Galvan was working for a dry cleaner. He was bored, wasn’t learning anything, and wanted a change. His parents, who had started working for Servicon four years earlier, suggested he apply for a position at Servicon. He did and got the job. It was September 2020, right in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant all hands on deck in the healthcare field.
“I would fill in when workers were out, and the hospital was short on staff,” Mauricio recalls. “I would go and make beds and clean and disinfect whatever was needed. I wasn’t afraid because the company provided all the PPE and information, and my parents were knowledgeable. They had already been working during COVID and told me to wear the PPE, and I would be fine.”
They were right, Mauricio stayed healthy, and one year later, he was promoted to floor care technician.
“What I like best about my job and Servicon is everything,” Mauricio says. “I like the work; it’s different than what I was doing, and I like it. I like when the hospital staff notices the floor looks clean. People notice and share their feedback. It makes me feel proud of my work. I also like my schedule. I like my managers, too. The managers are good people. They understand when things come up and are flexible.”
That’s not to say his job is always easy. “The most difficult part of my job is keeping staff off the floor, getting them to walk around where I have just waxed. I know they have to perform their job, but they move fast, and it can be dangerous when the floors are not dry.”
Mauricio joined Servicon during one of the most challenging eras in modern history, and even though he was faced with the first “winter wave” of the pandemic, he felt supported and was given the opportunity to not only learn but advance in his career. The work is important, especially during these trying times, and he feels pride in his contributions to people’s health.
His parents recommended the job to him, so would Mauricio recommend Servicon to other potential job candidates? “Absolutely,” he answers without hesitation. “Based on my parents’ experience and mine, I have recommended Servicon to people looking for a job. I suggest they go online and apply because it is a good company.”
Cuidado de pisos en su máxima expresión
Mauricio Galván trabajaba en una tintorería. Estaba aburrido, no estaba aprendiendo nada y quería un cambio. Sus padres, que habían comenzado a trabajar para Servicon cuatro años antes, le sugirieron que solicitara un puesto en Servicon. Lo hizo y consiguió el trabajo. Era septiembre de 2020, justo en el medio dela combustión de la pandemia de COVID-19, lo que significaba que todas las manos a la obra en el campo de la atención médica.
“Llenaba el lugar cuando los trabajadores estaban fuera, y el hospital tenía poco personal”, Mauricio recuerda. “Iba y hacía camas y limpiaba y desinfectaba lo que fuera necesario. No tuve miedo porque la empresa proporcionó todo el EPP y la información, y mis padres estaban bien informados. Ya habían estado trabajando durante el COVID y me dijeron que usara el EPP y que estaría bien”.
Tenían razón, Mauricio se mantuvo saludable y un año después fue ascendido a técnico de cuidado de pisos.
“Lo que más me gusta de mi trabajo y de Servicon es todo”, dice Mauricio. “Me gusta el trabajo; es diferente de lo que estaba haciendo, y me gusta. Me gusta cuando el personal del hospital nota que el piso se ve limpio. La gente nota y comparte sus comentarios. Me hace sentir orgullosa de mi trabajo. También me gusta mi horario. También me gustan mis gerentes. Los gerentes son buenas personas. Entienden cuando las cosas surgen y son flexibles”.
Eso no quiere decir que su trabajo siempre sea fácil. “La parte más difícil de mi trabajo es mantener al personal fuera del piso, hacer que caminar alrededor de donde acabo de encerar. Sé que tienen que hacer su trabajo, pero se mueven rápido y puede ser peligroso cuando los pisos no están secos”.
Mauricio se unió a Servicon durante una de las eras más desafiantes de la historia moderna y, aunque se enfrentó a la primera “ola de invierno” de la pandemia, se sintió apoyado y se le dio la oportunidad no solo de aprender sino de avanzar en su carrera. El trabajo es importante, especialmente durante estos tiempos difíciles, y se siente orgulloso de sus contribuciones a la salud de las personas.
Sus padres le recomendaron el trabajo, entonces, ¿recomendaría Mauricio Servicon a otros candidatos potenciales para el trabajo? “Absolutamente”, responde sin dudarlo. “Basado en la experiencia de mis padres y la mía, he recomendado Servicon a personas que buscan trabajo.
