When the contract with the cleaning company wasn’t renewed at the facility where environmental services (EVS) technician Ana Rodriguez worked, they offered her a position at another facility. The site was far from her home in LA, a city famous for its traffic, and the job would have required her to get there at 5 a.m. She knew this schedule and location wouldn’t work with taking care of her two sons, Alessandro, who is five, and Andrew, 10. Knowing this, her two sisters suggested she apply for a position with their employer, Servicon. She applied and got the job. She started working at a hospital closer to her home on April 20, 2020—less than a month into the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
Cleaning Through Tough Times
“It was hard being in a healthcare setting during COVID,” Rodriguez admits. “I had mixed feelings; it was scary, but at the same time, it felt good to be helping. I cleaned the areas where the doctors and nurses would go to rest, and I felt proud to be cleaning it for them.”
She also felt good about keeping herself and her family safe. “I felt proud that I wore all the right PPE and followed all the procedures for removal and the right cleaning protocols so that I did not get COVID, and neither did my sons,” she says.
A Lot to Love
Another aspect that helped get her through the scary times was how she feels about her job. “I like everything about work,” she says. “I love to clean. Cleaning makes things safe and look pretty. I like the flexible shifts. I love the people I work with and the company. The staff and company treat me well and make me feel valued.”
Rodriguez also likes Servicon’s participation in the community. “The company contributes to the community in many different ways,” she says. “It makes me feel proud and happy to be able to say I work at Servicon. I recommend Servicon to other people in the community looking for a job. I tell them it is a good place to work.”

Limpieza en tiempos difíciles
“Fue difícil estar en un entorno de atención médica durante COVID”, admite Rodríguez. “Tenía sentimientos encontrados; daba miedo, pero al mismo tiempo, se sentía bien ayudar. Limpié las áreas donde iban a descansar los médicos y las enfermeras, y me sentí orgullosa de estar limpiándo para ellos”.
También se sentía bien por mantenerse a sí misma y a su familia a salvo. “Me sentí orgullosa de haber usado todo el EPP (Equipo de Protección Personal) adecuado y de haber seguido todos los procedimientos de remoción y los protocolos de limpieza correctos para no contraer COVID y mis hijos tampoco”, dice.
Mucho para amar
Otro aspecto que la ayudó a superar los momentos de miedo fue cómo se siente con respecto a su trabajo. “Me gusta todo lo relacionado con el trabajo”, dice ella. “Me encanta limpiar. La limpieza hace que las cosas sean seguras y se vean bonitas. Me gustan los turnos flexibles. Me encanta la gente con la que trabajo y la empresa. El personal y la empresa me tratan bien y me hacen sentir valorada.”
A Rodríguez también le gusta la participación de Servicon en la comunidad. “La empresa contribuye a la comunidad de maneras diferentes”, dice ella. “Me hace sentir orgullosa y feliz poder decir que trabajo en Servicon. Recomiendo Servicon a otras personas en la comunidad que buscan trabajo. Les digo que es un buen lugar para trabajar”.
