Servicon Earns EPA’s Prestigious ENERGY STAR Certification & Moves Closer to Net Zero

Servicon is pleased to share some exciting news: Our facilities have received the prestigious ENERGY STAR® rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).To receive this certification, a building must rank in the top 25% of its kind in energy efficiency. This designation recognizes Servicon’s facilities for their energy conservation, and we are one step closer to our “net zero” carbon emissions goal.

About ENERGY STAR Building Certification

ENERGY STAR-rated buildings are certified by the EPA as saving energy while protecting human health and the environment. Facilities do this by lowering their greenhouse gas emissions without sacrificing occupant comfort.

To be ENERGY STAR-certified, facilities must earn a score of 75 or higher on a scale of 1-100. This score is based on careful measurements that show the facility saves more energy than at least 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide. The score considers variations such as differences in operating conditions and regional weather and is verified by an independent third party.

Both Servicon’s 11,000-square-foot headquarters, including its state-of-the-art Learning Center, in Culver City, CA, and its 20,000-square-foot warehouse in Carson, CA, earned the ENERGY STAR designation.

Benefits of ENERGY STAR Certification

According to the EPA, commercial, residential, and industrial buildings create an estimated 60% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. These harmful emissions contribute to climate change, threatening public health and the environment. ENERGY STAR-certified buildings generate 35 percent fewer of these emissions than typical buildings. If all U.S. buildings achieved ENERGY STAR’s efficiency level, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an impressive 20%.

Our ENERGY STAR certification demonstrates that we are doing all we can to protect human health and the environment. In addition, our energy-saving practices help us save money on operating costs, which allows us to keep our pricing competitive. Our efforts also reduce our clients’ supply chain carbon footprint (often referred to as Scope 3 emissions). By choosing a supplier with ENERGY STAR-certified facilities, our clients demonstrate their commitment to sustainable procurement practices.

Closing In On Zero

Servicon’s ENERGY STAR certification is the latest win in our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Servicon also uses energy produced from onsite solar panels and purchases only renewable types of energy. As a result of these efforts, our facilities are rapidly approaching net zero carbon emissions. Simply defined, net zero refers to attaining a balance between the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. We continue to work toward this goal and are proud of our success to date.

Servicon’s three-pronged mission is to:

  • Provide exemplary environmental, custodial, and maintenance services for complex facilities.
  • Partner with our clients to define, measure, and validate goals
  • Do the right thing by our clients, people, and community.

Our ENERGY STAR-certified facilities are just one more way we strive to fulfill this mission.
