Prioritizing Employee Well-Being: The Role of Mental Health Support in the Workplace

Workplace mental health isn’t just a conversation—it’s a necessity. Employees face stress, anxiety, personal struggles, and work-related challenges every day. Creating a workplace supporting mental well-being enhances productivity, retention, and overall job satisfaction while fostering a healthier, more engaged workforce.

Servicon is committed to a culture where mental health support is accessible, encouraged, and embedded into daily work life. Through Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), leadership-driven initiatives, and open dialogue, employees have the resources they need to navigate challenges and maintain well-being.

Expanding Mental Health Support Through EAPs

Providing mental health resources isn’t enough—true support requires accessibility, encouragement, and real solutions.

Servicon’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers confidential, no-cost mental health support for employees and their families. From work-related stress to personal struggles, EAPs help employees manage challenges and build resilience in areas including:

  • Relationship and family concerns
  • Workplace stress and conflicts
  • Legal and financial issues
  • Anxiety, depression, and emotional well-being
  • Substance use and addiction support
  • Elder and childcare provider search tools
  • Medicare and Social Security benefits guidance.

Employees and their families also have access to:

  • 24/7 support via unlimited phone consultations with EAP professionals
  • Licensed mental health professionals within a trusted network
  • Eight in-person counseling sessions per issue per year
  • Talkspace online therapy for remote, flexible mental health care
  • A discount center for wellness-related purchases.

In 2024, employee EAP use increased by 14%, thanks to improved communication, leadership advocacy, and internal outreach.

Bringing Mindfulness to the Workplace

Mental well-being isn’t just about crisis support—it’s about giving employees the tools to manage stress proactively.

Recognizing the value of employee wellness, Servicon launched a six-week Mindfulness Pilot Program in 2024 at a healthcare site, introducing frontline staff to guided meditation, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises. Led by kinetic behaviorist Erin Grady, who has over 25 years of experience, the program provided employees with practical tools to manage stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional well-being.

Sessions were available in English and Spanish, with additional on-demand videos for flexibility, making it easier for employees to integrate mindfulness into their daily routines.

This initiative was inspired by Ruben Muñoz, a Servicon supervisor, who saw firsthand how mindfulness could benefit his colleagues. Understanding the stress frontline workers face, Ruben helped bring weekly meditation sessions to a serene garden space, creating a retreat for employees to decompress and reset during the workday.

“I have a very personal relationship with my employees. I know some are going through divorces, battling illnesses, or struggling with stress. I face my own health challenges, too. It’s easy to get caught up in the outside world and forget about our mental well-being. Meditation brings peace and calmness, and helps release stress—it’s a reset that allows us to refocus.” – Ruben Muñoz, Supervisor.

The impact was immediate—employees felt more relaxed, focused, and engaged, leading to a strong demand for more sessions.

Mindfulness at Rancho Los Amigos: A Model for Employee Well-Being

Building on the pilot program’s success, Servicon introduced mindfulness practices at Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation, reinforcing mental health as a workplace priority.

Inspired by his mental health journey, Ruben Muñoz launched weekly group meditation sessions, offering colleagues a way to decompress, reset, and prioritize their well-being. While some employees were hesitant at first, participation steadily grew. By incorporating calming music, a dedicated meditation space, and guided sessions, employees began to see the benefits of taking even a few minutes to focus on mindfulness.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Employees reported feeling:

  • Less stressed and more emotionally balanced
  • Improved focus and productivity at work
  • More connected as a team.

“At first, people weren’t sure, and that’s okay. But once they tried it, they realized how much those few moments of calm could improve their day.” – Ruben Muñoz.

Ruben hopes to expand the program across Servicon’s sites. His advice for companies introducing similar initiatives? Find a passionate advocate, make mindfulness accessible, and encourage—not force—participation. When employees experience the benefits, they’ll keep coming back.

“Mental health matters in every industry—whether you’re a doctor, a nurse, or a cleaner. If mindfulness helps me manage my challenges, I know it can help others, too.” – Ruben Muñoz.

The Future of Workplace Mental Health Support

Creating a workplace culture that prioritizes mental well-being requires more than policies—normalizing mental health conversations, providing meaningful resources, and integrating stress management into daily work life.

Servicon remains committed to expanding mental health initiatives, ensuring every employee can access support systems that promote balance, resilience, and emotional well-being. As workplace expectations evolve, so must mental health strategies—and companies that lead with compassion, innovation, and action will define the future of employee well-being.
