The Power of Positivity
Three years ago, a coworker told Patricia “Patty” Ramirez that Servicon had a position open. Today, Patty is a cleaning technician at a Servicon aerospace site in Texas. She is also one of only two recipients of the 2024 Richard Mahdesian Award, one of Servicon’s most prestigious honors.
The Richard Mahdesian Award recognizes employees who embody excellence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive impact. The award couldn’t be more fitting because if there is one thing Patty knows best, it’s the power of positivity.
It Takes a Team—and Positivity
Jamahn Hurd R. nominated Patty for her exceptional dedication to training new employees and fostering a supportive, confidence-building environment. Her unwavering work ethic, problem-solving skills, and ability to bridge communication gaps have been instrumental to her team’s success, as has her consistently positive attitude.
Yet Patty is eager to share credit with her team. “I am happy to have received this award, but I didn’t do it alone. I’m here because of my lead, Erin, Vicky a long-time coworker, and the people in the area I’m responsible for, who have been so great and welcoming to me. We’ve become a team. They don’t undervalue the work I do, and I appreciate it.”
The appreciation isn’t one way; her coworkers and clients value her unwavering commitment to excellence and positive energy.
“Amy Deer has encouraged me always to do the right thing, so I approach all situations with a spirit of teamwork and a smile,” Patty says. “Clients like when you smile at them. They have stressful jobs. The least we can do is greet them with a smile and say good morning or good afternoon. That’s how I started. At first, they didn’t respond to my hellos, but now they do. Even when I was going through a hard time, I bring a smile to my job. I believe we should approach our days with positivity and look forward to bringing some of this positivity and a smile to them. Clients have opened up to me about some of their hardships, and I try to share with them how to be positive. I like to be like a light at work. Hopefully people see it and can use some of it. To keep my own energy up, I listen to music. Mañana Será Bonito by Karol G is my happy song.”
Money, Support, and Community
Patty is a single mom who previously had to work two jobs to make ends meet. That changed when she joined Servicon. “Servicon pays me very well,” she says. “With this job, I have been able to add to my home to give us more room and purchase a family car. I would recommend the company to people looking for work because it is a good company to work for. They pay well and prioritize safety. They are careful to ensure our work doesn’t put us in an unsafe situation.”
She is also grateful for her supervisors and coworkers. “Erin Garcia, my lead, and Ted Valdez, my supervisor, are very supportive and super helpful. I’m really happy that Erin doesn’t micromanage us, but I know she’s there for us when we need her. Sometimes, I help Erin translate onboardings and training. If I’m asked to help translate or fall behind with my work, they will find me help. And when my car broke down, Ted helped me out. My team is part of my work community. We work together, help each other, and organize teambuilding activities to celebrate one another. When we spend eight hours a day at work, it’s important to have this feeling of community.”
