From a young age, Juan Garcia knew he liked hospitals.
“As a kid, I was sick and in hospitals a lot,” he says. “They never had the effect on me they do on other people. I didn’t feel sad or sick. I liked the idea of making people feel good and knew I could be of help one way or another. But I never really enjoyed my jobs as a nurse’s aide or healthcare security.”
Three years ago, he started working for Servicon, and now he has a healthcare career he loves: working as an EVS technician at a mental health facility in Los Angeles County, CA.
“I like cleaning because I can see the results and can change people’s moods,” Garcia says. “When everything is clean, I hear people say they feel better. They say they can feel the flow and are more productive. I like creating that environment. I stood out in those other occupations, but I find this more meaningful. I love cleaning. I like the smell of clean. I like when people say the room looks and smells clean. I like everything that comes with cleaning in a hospital environment.
Garcia also likes Servicon, including the company’s culture and the positive impact his employer has on people’s lives. “Servicon makes a big difference in the community,” he says. “I read about things like the scholarships it offers for employee families. I like hearing these things. It makes me feel like the management has our back. They care. I tell other people looking for a job they should apply and have several friends who now work for the company at various locations.”
Ultimately, “Working at Servicon makes me feel grateful,” Garcia says. “There are two guys who work here who say they want to stay at Servicon and retire from here, and they are only in their 50s. The company gives you that feeling of wanting to stay because you are home with family.”
Juan García: ‘Me encanta limpiar’
Desde muy joven, Juan García supo que le gustaban los hospitales.
“Cuando era niño, la pasaba enfermo y en hospitales seguido”, dice. “Nunca tuvieron el efecto en mí que tienen en otras personas. Nunca me sentí triste ni enfermo. Me gustaba la idea de hacer que la gente se sintiera bien y sabía que podía ser de ayuda de una forma u otra. Pero nunca disfruté mucho de mi trabajo como asistente de enfermería o seguridad de atención médica”.
Hace tres años, comenzó a trabajar para Servicon y ahora tiene una carrera en el cuidado de la salud que le encanta: trabajar como técnico de EVS en un centro de salud mental en el condado de Los Ángeles, CA.
“Me gusta limpiar porque puedo ver los resultados y puedo cambiar el estado de ánimo de las personas”, dice García. “Cuando todo está limpio, escucho a la gente decir que se siente mejor. Dicen que pueden sentir el flujo y son más productivos. Me gusta crear ese ambiente. Me destaqué en esas otras ocupaciones, pero encuentro esto más significativo. Me encanta limpiar. Me gusta el olor a limpio. Me gusta cuando la gente dice que la habitación se ve y huele a limpio. Me gusta todo lo que conlleva la limpieza en un ambiente hospitalario.
A García también le gusta Servicon, incluida la cultura de la empresa y el impacto positivo que tiene su empleador en la vida de las personas. “Servicon hace una gran diferencia en la comunidad”, dice. “Leí sobre cosas como las becas que ofrece para las familias de los empleados. Me gusta escuchar estas cosas. Me hace sentir que la gerencia nos respalda. A ellos les importa. Les ha dicho a otras personas que buscan trabajo y se postularon y ahora tiene varios amigos que trabajan para la empresa en varios lugares”.
En última instancia, “Trabajar en Servicon me hace sentir agradecido”, dice García. “Hay dos muchachos que trabajan aquí que dicen que quieren quedarse en Servicon y retirarse de aquí, y solo tienen 50 años. La empresa te da esa sensación de querer quedarte porque estás en casa con la familia”.
